Team FCA is a group of former and current student athletes who huddle up every Thursday nights around 9:00 pm at Friends Hall to pray, worship, and rejoice in fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We're a fun loving gang and we always welcome new members! Keep checking this site for news, photos, and event information.

Welcome back! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving break and you are ready to finish the semester strong. Mark your calendars, because there are several fun FCA events that will take place this week.

This Thursday, we will be watching a thought-provoking short DVD. Afterwards we will have small groups to discuss the DVD and pray for one another as the semester ends and exams begin.

This Sunday, Decemeber 7, the FCA Formal will be held in the Mott House at 6:30 pm. Remember to bring a White Elephant gift and silly slippers or socks. Dress is formal. Bring your dancing socks and be prepared to have some fun!

Lastly, Kolby Hoover will be coming in from Washington this Friday! If you don't know Kolby, he is someone you will definitely want to get to know. Be sure to contact him or catch him at Midnight League and the FCA Formal!

Put the books down and come hear Eric Hause speak at FCA this Thursday! Eric is the youth pastor for Bethel Grove Bible church, just down the road from Cornell. He went to Denver Seminary where he played college Basketball. Today he uses his seminary and basketball skills to keep up with the curious and energetic youth of Bethel Grove. Be sure to be there for a great time and to gain some insight into how God is working in Eric's life.

Additionally, Cornell-Ithaca FCA shirts and sweaters will be coming out soon! Be sure to e-mail us if you can't make it to the meeting tonight to sign up. The shirts are a must have for any avid FCA member.

Lastly, the FCA Formal is on Dec 7 around 6:30 at the Mott House. Be ready for tasty holiday treats and festive dancing.

This Thursday Dan DiLeo will speak about the life of a Christian athlete and the role God has played in his hockey career. Dan DiLeo has been a long time FCA member and leader, and plays goalie for the Cornell Ice Hockey team as number 31. He has an amazing background, a lot of passion, and a great sense of humor. Come this Thursday to hear an encouraging message about how God is working in Dan's life.

Additionally, FCA lunch will be held in the Statler at 12-2 pm Wednesday. It is a great time to get to know your fellow FCA members outside of the weekly meetings.

Lastly, Midnight League will be held early this week at 10 pm. Bring your friends and bundle up to brave the cold. It is sure to be a fun time!

When things get hectic, it is important to remember the things in life that matter the most. The relationships that we have are what will keep us going from exam to exam, lecture to lecture, practice to practice, and ultimately from day to day.

This Thursday come to FCA and get to know some great people. This week we will be pondering some questions in an effort to get to know each other better. Bring a friend or come prepared to make some new ones!

Welcome back from Fall Break Cornell FCAers! As for Ithaca FCAers, you are almost there!

Regardless, we hope you are looking forward to this Thursday's speaker, Pastor Mike. Pastor Mike teaches at Agape Bible Church here in Ithaca and has his Sunday morning sermons televised to reach those in their homes who are seeking God or cannot come to church for other reasons. He is known for his amazing testimonies and his Brooklyn accent. Be there for a spirit filled time and a powerful message! We hope to see you there!

Additionally, remember to submit designs for the Cornell-Ithaca FCA t-shirts and sweaters. The deadline is quickly approaching, Oct. 22nd.

FCA Bonfire!

Celebrate the beginning of Fall Break with an FCA Bonfire this Thursday at 9:00 pm. Be there for s'mores, good company, and man-muffins made by James Noronha!

The bonfire will be at 1344 Ellis Hollow Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850. There will be transportation provided for those without cars from Friends Hall of Fame at 8:40 pm, with a late train leaving at 9:15-20 pm. Be sure to contact the leadership team if you think you might be later than that and would still like to come!

Additionally, there will be no Bible Studies this weekend due to the Cornell recess. Midnight League will still occur, contact Alec and Willie for details.

Today is Homecoming! Go Big Red and go to the football game to support your alumni, school, and your fellow FCAers Tyler Lucas, Drew Alston, and all football players who have come lately! Hello all!

This Thursday, a veteran FCAer, Malikie Fornah, will be delivering a message. Malikie is a former Cornell undergraduate and graduate student in English. Always smiling, the clever Malikie will be sure to deliver laughs and fun this Thursday with a heartfelt message about Christ.

Friday- Midnight League Remix- James Noronha has an undisclosed plan to mix up the Midnight League activities. Will we play football? Soccer? Swim in that creek across the street? Come and find out!

Saturday- Homecoming Dinner- Come to the Mott House on Wyckoff Ave. for some delicious food prepared by James Noronha and Abby Marlow. Alumni are more than welcome! Please RSVP to Abby at arm63@cornell.edu.

Welcome to the Cornell-Ithaca FCA website! We hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to have a blast at FCA! Check this site periodically in the future for soon-to-come FCA events. Word is that our first FCA kickoff may involve some of Drew All-stud's famous Tennessee BBQ...

For those visiting for the first time, welcome! We can't wait to meet you! We are a fun-loving, spirit-filled group that focuses on God, fellowship, prayer and having a great time. We meet Thursday nights at 9 pm in Friends Hall's Hall of Fame Room over by the Schoellkopf field house across from Teagle (It is on the map in your planner). SPRING BREAK TRIP 2008 - FCA is going to San Antonio!

DATES and TRAVEL INFO:
Option #1: Saturday March 15th to Saturday March 22nd
Option #2: Saturday March 15th to Thursday / Friday March 20/21st (to get back in time for Easter)
Note - these dates are somewhat flexible; we will try to accommodate your schedule.
We will drive from Ithaca to the Philadelphia area, where we will hop on a plane to San Antonio.
Feel free to research flights yourself, but we've found that Northwest Airlines from Philly to San Antonio is the cheapest flight plan.
We will coordinate flights to keep people together.

The DEADLINE for deciding if you would like to come on the trip is this Thursday, January 31st.
For planning purposes, we need to know by the 9PM meeting if you are definitely coming.
Note - there will be a separate but brief meeting after FCA on Thursday with all those signed up to go.

People coming on the trip are asked to pay for their own plane ticket - we estimate this will cost each person $200-275.
FCA will cover food, transportation, and lodging expenses.

FCA Spring Break Trip - San Antonio, Texas - Week of March 17th
- If you're seriously interested in joining us for this trip, e-mail the leadership team: cornellithacafca@gmail.com... we'll start a separate e-mail group to discuss trip details.
- We estimate that the trip will cost each member between $200-300 (includes plane ticket, food, etc) and encourage you to start fundraising on your own... perhaps request donations from your home church?

Special Olympics Bowling on Fridays - Every Friday of the semester - 4:30-6PM Helen Newman Lanes on Cornell's North Campus
- The local area Special Olympics group needs students to volunteer to keep score and cheer on the athletes. It's a lot of fun and can count towards 'service hours' required for Tradition, etc.

This young lady is one of 9 children in a loving Christian family and she needs your help! She is excited to attend college someday but cannot afford to do so. Our guest speaker is a professor and athletic trainer at IC and is - get this - a former Head Athletic Trainer for the San Francisco 49ers. (Which is super exciting even for us Steeler fans). He worked with the 49ers until 2006 - while he was with the team, his training staff was designated NFL Training Staff of the Year. Talk about ending the FCA semester with a shebang!

This Thursday will be like no other Thursday before in the history of Cornell-Ithaca FCA... the night will feature a game show style of getting to know your God, your leadership team, life in general, and of course, athletics!

FYI: Bible-toting folks can consider themselves well-prepared for this activity... (i.e. you are advised to bring your Bible to FCA this Thursday!)

Operation Christmas Child - Boxes due at Nov. 15th FCA meeting

Operation Christmas Child
is well under way with our FCA!

Members of our gang have been contributing to this special cause for several years now - help us keep the tradition going! This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your Christian compassion for others less fortunate than yourself. Team up with a partner or a small group of friends for this project - it's amazing what one old shoe box can do when put to good use!

Directions to get you started:

1. Use a shoe box, standard size...or a plastic container that is the same size as a shoe-box.
2. Choose the child you'd like to bless - Boy or Girl in one of three age categories: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14 years old
3. Fill the box with appropriate fun things and lovely gifts
4. Bring it to FCA before or on November 15th!

This week's guest speaker is Mr. Dan DiLeo, passionate FCAer and member of the Cornell Catholic Community. Dan plays varsity ice hockey at Cornell as a goalie. He's Italian, loves the G.O.D. and his family, and his favorite time of the week occurs during Catholic Mass on Sunday night in Sage Chapel (according to an inside source). He's a Missouri boy, and we're glad to have him.

Thursday is also All Saints Day - a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics.
Special Masses are held on this day (Nov. 1st) to celebrate the lives of all known and unknown Saints.
Masses will take place in Annabel Taylor Hall Chapel at 12:20Pm and 5:30pm.

In other news/important tidbits...

- Leadership team is busy planning various fun-ness for our gang. If you're one who likes to plan well in advance, make a note of the annual FCA semi-formal (that's right, we host a fancy Christmas party) for Sunday, December 2nd.

- We are in the process of developing a new line of FCA apparel...

- Meredith has taken quite a few photos of you all this semester, (as if you hadn't noticed), and she will post the FCA photos to this site for your viewing pleasure sometime in the near future.

- The leadership team is extending an invitation to you - our beloved members - to participate as a guest speaker for an upcoming meeting. The topic is yours, providing it's one of divine inspiration... let us know what God has put on your heart!

- We will be participating in a service project in time for Christmas this year... Operation Christmas Child is something you will hear more about in the coming month. On Thursday night (10/25/07) you may choose to receive a shoebox for this project - we ask that you fill it with toys and other good things for children. The boxes are sent all over the world in time for Christmas. You will receive more info regarding the project - so keep your eyes, ears and hearts open!

Rise and shine folks, it's now officially Cornell's Homecoming weekend! Sprint football kicked it off to a great start last night, beating Princeton 34-0... yes, 34-0. Our own Matt Malleo had two touchdowns! Awesome!

Just a reminder of today's festivities:

Look for Rachael on the sidelines with the cheer squad... Ted Sonnenberg is #68, Paul Ostick is #75, Tyler Lucas is #15, Drew Alston is #86 - look for our guys on the playing field! Mere will be taking yearbook photos from the field, so smile if you see her (and not just because she has a camera!)

FCA Family Dinner - 6:00PM Mott House
The Mott House is located at 203 Wyckoff Ave on the North Campus end of things... look for a white house with a Big Red front door! Anticipating a chilly day, soups will be there waiting to warm your soul! Here's a map that should help direct your hungry hearts. The house is not exactly on the corner, as the map suggests, so just go up Wyckoff a short distance and look for a white house with red door. And you're there!

FCA Family Dinner 6:00PM at the MOTT House

This is our first FCA family dinner of the year. These are always a hit - good food, great fellowship. We just get together as a family and enjoy a homecooked meal. Anticipating a chilly October day, the cooks will prepare an assortment of homemade soups, salads, and breads. Dessert too. Probably cider. Lots of photos and lots of fun. The event will be covered for The Ivy League Christian Observer magazine.

The Mott House is at 203 Wyckoff Avenue... just on the edge of Cornell's North Campus. Here's a map to aid you in your quest. The house is white with a big red front door.

On Sunday afternoon, a squadron of FCA members took to the Slaterville Firehouse with rollers, brushes, a few drips, and a whole lot of fun. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and the solid teamwork was evident...we finished the job!

Tim Hanley is a recent Cornell alum ('06). He played football during part of his stint as a Cornellian, then decided to devote himself more fully to the One Most Holy. Tim is an avid avid avid guy - about anything. Loves life and knows he is blessed! He is connected with dozens of parishes, fellowships, ministries, friaries, you name it... AND he's a great guest speaker.

of the Cornell Catholic Community

More commonly called "Fr. Bob"

From the Cornell Catholic Community (CCC) website:

Fr. Smith was a professor of philosophy at the Diocesan Seminary on Long Island during the 1960's. He spent 22 years at the University of the State of New York at Stony Brook, first as Catholic Chaplain and later establishing the chaplaincy program at the University Medical Center. For the last seven years at Stony Brook, he served as the founding Director of the Institute for Medicine in Contemporary Society in the School of Medicine. Before coming to Cornell, he directed a project on Long Island developing interfaith conversations about religion and contemporary culture.

Father Bob is a very gifted and blessed priest - his intellect and genuine reflections make his Sunday homilies some of the best I've ever known. He'll make you stop and think, for sure! We're hoping to build a bridge to encourage more IC folks to take up their swords for Christ, forge bonds and join our FCA ranks.

FORREST GUMP GOES TO HEAVEN

The day finally arrived.   Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven.  
He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself. 
However, the gates are closed, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said, "Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you.  
We have heard a lot about you. I must tell you, though,
that the place is filling up fast, and we have been
administering an entrance examination for everyone. 
The test is short, but you have to pass it
before you can get into Heaven."

Forrest responds, "It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. 
But nobody ever told me about any entrance exam. 
I sure hope that the test ain't too hard.
Life was a big enough test as it was."

St. Peter continued, "Yes, I know, Forrest,
but the test is only three questions.

First:
What two days of the week begin with the letter T?

Second:
How many seconds are there in a year?

Third:
What is God's first name?"

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. 
He returns the next day and sees St. Peter, who waves him up, and
says, "Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over,
tell me your answers"

Forrest replied, "Well, the
first one -- which two days in the week begins with the letter "T"?
Shucks, that one is easy.   That would be Today and Tomorrow."

The Saint's eyes opened wide and
he exclaimed, "Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do
have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit
for that answer.   How about the next one?" asked St. Peter.

"How many seconds in a year?
Now that one is harder," replied Forrest, but I thunk and thunk about
that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve."

Astounded, St. Peter said, "Twelve? Twelve? 
Forrest, how in Heaven's name could you come up with twelve
seconds in a year?"

Forrest replied, "Shucks, there's got to be twelve:
January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd... "

"Hold it," interrupts St. Peter.  
"I see where you are going with this, and I see your point,
though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give
you credit for that one, too.  Let us go on with the third and final
question. Can you tell me God's first name"?

"Sure," Forrest replied, "it's Andy."

"Andy?" exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter.

"Ok, I can understand how you came up with your answers
to my first two questions, but just how in the
world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?"

"Shucks, that was the easiest one of all," Forrest replied. 
"I learnt it from the song, "ANDY WALKS WITH ME,
ANDY TALKS WITH ME, ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN."

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates,
and said: "Run Forrest, run."

Dog Mushing in Alaska

For those who don't know, our dear FCA Alum Hannah Moderow is currently on a sled dog race in her home state of Alaska. She and her family are participating in the Serum Run, which commemorates the story portrayed in the movie Balto (childhood memories?). Hannah was contracted as a writer before the race began, and you can go here to read Hannah's on-the-trail journal.

Please pray for Hannah's safety...we're certain she's having a blast!

Every Saturday this semester Christians from various fellowship groups will come together to share the Gospel with other Cornell students.

Saturday Nights at 7PM
*Meet at Cascadeli in Willard Straight Hall

They spend about an hour discussing the Gospel and praying for those students who will (hopefully) receive their Gospel message that night. Then they travel to North Campus and share the Gospel with students.

Hey gang... here's the scoop. Our shirts arrived to Cornell from a screen printing shop in lovely southeastern Pennsylvania. Yes, I do say, lovely Pennsylvania.

*Pickup your shirt at our last FCA meeting this THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30th. (see below post) - if not, they will be available for pickup at the FCA formal on Sunday.

T-shirts cost $7 and hood sweatshirts $15. If you ordered both, come to the meeting with 25 bucks and you'll have plenty of mula. *Checks are okay, so bring cash or checkbook. Sorry, we don't take plastic. :)

FYI - in order to cover costs, we need the $mula$ before we can hand over the shirts... so PLEASE remember to bring some money, because we'd love to get the shirts out ASAP. Gotta spread them allll over campus too.

*If you can't remember what you ordered (tshirt or hooded sweatshirt or both?) then refer to the e-mail you'll receive this week from RachAel. There is a spreadsheet attached to the e-mail.

The new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. 
At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, 
but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. 

Therefore, he took out a business card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" 
on the back of it and stuck it in the door. 

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, 
he found that his card had been returned. 
Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis 3:10." 

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, 
he broke up in gales of laughter. 
Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."

Have any empty shoeboxes sitting in your closet? Here's a fabulous way to use it. Spend a few bucks on small toys that will fit inside the shoebox (think "Christmas in a box" for a child of a certain age) and then bring your filled box to FCA by November 16th. We'll collect them and team up with the Bethel Grove Bible Church crowd, who is sending a whole bunch to less fortunate children this Christmas season. Your toy box could end up on the other side of the world!

Things to Know:
- You can also use a small plastic container; fancy Christmas wrapping is not required.
- Determine whether your gift is for a boy or girl, and determine the appropriate age category for your gift box: age 2-4; age 5-9; or age 10-14. We'll hook you up with a way to label your package.
- Gift ideas include small toys (i.e. stuffed animals, dolls, balls, jump ropes, etc), school supplies, hygiene items, candy, a personal note ...
- If you include a note with the package, and your return address, the recipient will likely write back to you! How cool is that?

So we've been milkin' this FCA shirt thing for all it's worth... now the order is finally in! We experienced some technical difficulties communicating with our shirt-man - but now we're "good to go." We should be hugging-one-another-in-exultation-while-wearing-our-FCA-shirts by December!
